When I was a child, my mother forbade me to watch two films: «The Silence of the Lambs» и «Cape Fear» . Both are considered among the best horror films of all time, and I've become more interested in the genre lately. So a few years ago I watched «The Silence of the Lambs» and was very pleased. Now that the series is scheduled for 2026 «Cape Fear» , I decided to give the 1991 film a chance. I must say, after watching it, I understood why my mother forbade me to watch it.

Robert De Niro's Max, who creeps around everywhere, is truly terrifying.

From the very beginning, I was terrified of Robert De Niro's Max Cady. Even his gaze from afar gave me goosebumps. In real life, I'm constantly afraid of bad people who might show up, and in this movie, Max literally does just that. So, for two hours straight, I watched my greatest fear unfold.

Max thirsted for revenge, and he achieved it in the most horrific and disturbing way. He also wanted to torment this family and drive them to madness. So his revenge wasn't quick and brutal. No, it was vicious, drawn-out, and calculated. And as these events escalated, the reality of the situation became even more horrifying.

I think that's what makes the collaboration between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese so remarkable. The actor plays the terrifying role of a lifetime, and his actions, cumulatively, create a story about a family driven to utter madness by this man.

The way Max treated women in this movie made me never want to watch it again.

Overall, most of all in Cape Fear I was horrified by how horribly women were treated. As a young woman, I was horrified by what I saw as how they were manipulated and tortured.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever forget the scene where Max literally bit off part of a woman's face. I was also so disgusted when I watched him kiss Juliette Lewis's character, Danielle, in the school play that I had to turn away from the screen.

While Sam, played by Nick Nolte, was abused and violated by Max, there's no doubt his wife and daughter suffered the most. Throughout the film, Max uses the women closest to Sam to torment him. It's diabolical, disgusting, and downright disturbing. Honestly, it scared the living daylights out of me, and after watching it, I didn't want to leave the house alone.

However, despite the fact that the film «Cape Fear» It terrified me, but it's also a very good film; that can't be denied.

So, as the premiere approaches, I'm mentally preparing myself for the trauma of it. Frankly, I mean that as a compliment. «Cape Fear» is a brilliantly disturbing film, and I want Javier Bardem to be as terrifying as De Niro as Max. So you can bet I'll be tuning in on June 5th when I subscribe to Apple TV. However, at the same time, I think it's important to note that I won't be rewatching it. «Cape Fear» 1991 in the near future, because my mother was right, it's terrible.
