In an interview with the publication Page Six The actor stated that over time, the amount of royalties steadily decreased.
«"Ultimately, the payout amount goes down," McGinley said.

McGinley commented on his career: «I’ve been in TV series "The Love Boat"« three and a half seasons. I starred in TV series "Happy Days"« "Four seasons. Basically, I was constantly receiving royalties.".
«"I have some stuff - the whole stack on top is worth one cent," he added.
Asked if he ever cashed even the smallest checks, McGinley replied, "No. I keep them as a trophy, as a reminder of how ridiculous this system is. It costs me a fortune to send those checks.".
The actor added that "anything over two [dollars]" will be cashed out. "Anything over $1.89 will be deposited.".

McGinley currently plays the role of Derek on the series «Zoom Out on Apple TV, and, as he recently told PEOPLE, it's a role he "never thought he'd get.".
«"My whole career, I've dreamed about what it would be like to work with someone like Harrison Ford or Jason Segel," he told PEOPLE exclusively, emphasizing that he once thought, "I'd never get a chance to do a scene like that.".
McGinley also told PEOPLE how impressed he was by his small role in in the film "Pearl Harbor" »", noting that despite having only "three days of work," he was surrounded by big stars.
«"I was like, 'Okay, now I'm going to go see Michael Bay, Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett—I'm going to go see Alec Baldwin. What are these guys doing that I'm not doing?'" he recalls thinking at the time. "I got there and realized, 'Okay, I'm doing this. It's just not easy to get there,' and that's why I always tell actors, 'Just keep going. You have to keep believing.'".
90s teen movie star Andrew Keegan also recently opened up about the reality of the royalties he receives for some of his hit projects, including «10 Reasons I Hate You» , saying on the podcast: "I think it's really funny because I get—different shows, of course—but I get paid one cent.".
«"It costs about 40 cents to mail," Keegan added, noting that sometimes he doesn't even check what project the one-cent checks are for because the small amount "isn't worth my time.".
