When they say, "Don't awaken the beast within me," what do you picture? A tiger, a wolf, a leopard, or some other clawed and fanged creature? Perhaps something else, as nature is teeming with animals terrifying in appearance and character. From this diverse array of monsters, we've selected the world's most terrifying animals, which we present to you.
10. Star-nosed mole
This ugly mole's snout consists of 22 pink tentacles. The star-nosed mole uses these tentacles to identify food by touch.
9. Brazilian wandering spider
One of the largest spiders in the world can not only kill you, it will make your death as humiliating as possible. When this spider bites a person, they experience heart problems, seizures, and, in men, painful erections that require medical attention.
When there are no people around to bite, the Brazilian wandering spider prefers bananas, mice, insects, and lizards.
8. European monkfish
Horrible on the outside, delicious on the inside—that's how gourmets might describe this fish. While the deep-sea anglerfish, nicknamed the monkfish, may be terrifying in appearance, its flesh is white, delicious, and boneless. It's especially popular in France and the UK.
The anglerfish has a retractable jaw and no ribs, allowing it to swallow prey larger than itself. However, this creature is not dangerous to humans.
7. Taipan
The bite of a taipan, one of the top ten most venomous snakes in the world, is fifty times more toxic than that of a king cobra. If you're bitten by this scaly beast, you'll only have about 30 minutes to get to the hospital before it's all over.
6. Ouch
Pictured here is one of the world's ugliest animals: the aye-aye, or little arm. This Madagascar creature is distinctive not only in its appearance but also in its method of finding and eating food. It taps on trees in search of grubs, then chews a hole and retrieves its prey with its long middle finger.
5. Komodo dragon
Few of the world's most fearsome animals can boast a species dating back over 3.8 million years, as is the case with the Komodo dragon. These animals were once found in Australia and Java, but now (apparently fortunately for humans) their habitat is limited to four Indonesian islands.
Due to their large size and weight (3 meters and 70 kg, respectively), as well as their aggressive behavior, giant monitor lizards are potentially dangerous to humans. When biting, they can easily tear out a chunk of flesh, causing massive blood loss and blood poisoning.
There have been several reported cases of Komodo dragons attacking people, which is why all groups of tourists wishing to see these "land crocodiles" are always accompanied by a ranger.
4. Cone snail
«"How can such a cutie be on the list of the world's 10 scariest animals?" you might protest. "Of course it can," we reply. And here's why. If you try to pick up one of these predatory snails as a souvenir, its harpoon-like teeth will sink into your hand.
Some call this creature a "cigarette snail." If you get bitten by a cone snail, you'll have just enough time to smoke a cigarette before you die.
Interestingly, the venom of these snails, even those living in the same area, varies in composition and toxicity, a feature not observed in other venomous creatures. There is no antidote, and treatment is only symptomatic.
3. Great white shark
The third-largest shark in the world is the most aggressive and "humane" of its kind. From 1907 to the present, these massive jaws have clamped down and killed more than 220 people.

2. Tiger
This large, powerful, and deadly feline is one of the largest land predators. In terms of mass, the tiger is second only to its "brother bears"—the brown and polar bears.
Tigers are among the animals that are not averse to feasting on human flesh. The most famous man-eating tiger in history was the Champawat Tigress. In the late 19th century, this Bengal tiger carried off and ate 436 people before being killed by British hunter Jim Corbett.
1. Saltwater crocodile
If you look at a photo of one of the most feared animals in the world, you'll realize that getting close to a saltwater crocodile is only possible in a zoo. And even then, only if the bars are as thick as your arm, and the crocodile is well-fed.
Saltwater crocodiles are the deadliest large animals on Earth. In Australia alone, these largest reptiles killed 106 people between 1971 and 2013. And in 1945, saltwater crocodiles killed a thousand Japanese soldiers on Ramree Island. This attack even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest attack by a wild animal on humans.
Saltwater crocodiles are not meant to be "peacefully and harmoniously" lived with, no matter how hard you try. They are extremely aggressive and fearless. Some have even attacked larger predators, such as sharks.
Saltwater crocodiles grow up to 5.2 meters in length, and their bite force is the most powerful in the natural kingdom, reaching between 27,531 and 34,424 newtons.
