Marc Maron and Sharon Stone have teamed up for a new film premiering at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, and found a way to honor Maron's late friend, director Lynn Shelton, while filming a key scene.
Maron, 62, and Stone, 68, play former spouses and actors who both received terminal diagnoses in their new film. «In Memory» . In an interview Variety Maroon He said he was disappointed with himself when he struggled to cry on cue in a scene featuring Stone, until she encouraged him to address his grief over Shelton, who died in 2020 at age 54. (Maron and Shelton had been dating for about a year at the time of her death.)
«"Why don't you do this scene with Lynn, and I'll make sure she's here," Stone told Maron, according to the publication. Describing how the scene unfolded after Maron followed Stone's advice, the actor and comedian called his Oscar-nominated co-star "some kind of mystical creature.".
«"She's a powerful force. She said that, and it made me realize that Lynn was my greatest support as an actress," Maron said. "She loved guiding me. I don't know if I would have continued acting if it weren't for her. So, working for Lynn, I reached an emotional place that I think I've transcended.".

According to data Variety , Stone and Maron met and became friends when she appeared on his podcast. WTF in 2018 and have remained close friends ever since. She even sent him a note of condolence after Shelton's death in 2020. "It was a terrible tragedy," Stone said of Shelton's death. "He lost her so early, and she was so important to him.".
Shelton and Maron were friends and creative collaborators for years before their relationship turned romantic in 2019. Maron starred in the Netflix series «GLOW» , several episodes of which Shelton directed, and also directed several episodes of his sitcom «"Maroon"» on IFC in 2016. A few days before Shelton's death, IndieWire reported that the couple had been working on a film together.

«"We really worked together on stage. I've gone up against some real bosses in my career. I was always invited to challenge the biggest and strongest guys, often quite tough ones, but they knew I could handle it," Stone told the publication. Variety On working with Maron. "But working with someone like Mark was completely different. He was so open and honest about his feelings and emotions, so willing to be sincere with me. He was my true partner, not my adversary.".
Premiere of the play «In Memory» will take place at the Tribeca Festival on June 7.
