Sharon Stone is listening to her gut instinct about the upcoming reboot of her biggest film yet.
The Oscar-nominated actor is well aware of the upcoming Basic Instinct remake, but only learned of screenwriter Joe Eszterhas' age in an interview on Wednesday and joked that his thriller reboot will never top the original.

«"How old is Joe Eszterhas?" Stone asked, then Googled the answer, according to Variety. "Oh, he's 81. So I guess he's a real expert on sexuality.".
The renowned screenwriter actually penned an original script centered on a femme fatale named Catherine Tramell, played by Stone. She's a writer who uses the same murder methods as the characters in her novels to claim, as an alibi, that she would act foolishly.
According to an insider who spoke to The Wrap, the reboot, announced last summer, is planned as an "anti-progressive" reimagining. Eszterhas has reportedly struck a $2 million deal with Amazon MGM Studios to write the remake's script.
He was apparently well aware at the time of the backlash to his contract caused by age discrimination.

«"For those wondering what an 80-year-old man is doing writing a sexy, bloody explicit thriller: rumors of my cinematic impotence are exaggerated and ageist," he told The Wrap in July. "I call my co-writer PERVERT LITTLE MAN, and he lives somewhere deep inside me.".
Eszterhas continued: "He's 29, he'll die at 29, and he tells me he's 'on top of heaven' to write this text and give the audience a wild and orgasmic adventure. That makes me very happy.".

Basic Instinct made Stone a Hollywood star and cemented Michael Douglas's status as a sought-after thriller actor of his time. Stone then starred opposite Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese's Casino (1994), calling him "the best kisser in the business.".
In 2001, Stone was forced to effectively put her career on hold after suffering a stroke and cerebral hemorrhage, which she claims nearly ended her acting career. She also claimed that the controversial subject matter of Basic Instinct led to her losing custody of her child in 2004.
Paul Verhoeven's film openly depicts debauchery, rampant drug use, and brutal murders, so the idea of an "anti-progressive" version is naturally difficult for fans of the original to accept. Stone is currently promoting his new film, In Memoriam, starring Marc Maron.
