Anna Faris believes that after she became famous thanks to the series Scary Movie films« , she was unable to establish herself in Hollywood as a dramatic actress.
Faris, 49, returns to the big screen as Cindy Campbell, the franchise's leading lady. «Scary Movie» , in the reboot of the series from its creators Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Keenan Ivory Wayans. At the film's Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, June 3, Faris spoke The Hollywood Reporter , that while she considers the franchise a "gift" for her career, she found it difficult to expand beyond comedy due to its association with parody films.
«"It was a strange struggle for me, defining, frustrating, and fulfilling all at once. For 25 years, I felt loved by people, [but] I wasn't winning any awards, I couldn't even audition for dramatic roles," she said. "My colleagues felt they had an advantage, and I didn't understand why. And here I was, I felt, trapped in a world of R-rated comedies? What the hell was the future holding for me?"»

However, Faris now told the publication that "it's just an incredible feeling to feel confident again" after returning to the rebooted series. "I'm a rock now. Look at me, try to knock me down—I'm stable now," she said.
Faris made her film debut in 1991 in the television film «Deception: The Maternal Secret» , and before the exit «Scary Movie » in 2000 she starred in films «"Eden"» и «Lovers' Alley» .
She has starred in all the films in the franchise except «Scary Movie 5» 2013. When the Wayans brothers returned to the series in 2024, they specifically invited her and her co-star Regina Hall to reprise their roles.
In recent years, Faris has starred in films such as «"Estate"» и «My Spy: The Eternal City» , and also appeared periodically on television and voiced characters. Her long-running sitcom on CBS «"Mother"» ended in 2020.
«"I was starting to think that Hollywood had essentially retired me. And that was okay," Faris admitted in a recent interview. Entertainment Weekly . She noted that her Los Angeles home, where she lives with her husband, Michael Barrett, and son, Jack Pratt, burned down during the fires that devastated much of the city in early January 2025.
«"After the house burned down, we rethought a lot of things. So being able to thank them—I could thank [the Wayans family] every day," she said of her return. "They were probably really upset with me.".

In April, Faris told PEOPLE she was «shocked and immediately thrilled» when she received the offer to return to «Scary Movie» to work on a new part. «I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that there was a world in which I would feel so good working on «Scary Movie» , »It’s not just good, it’s great,” she said.
