The search for missing mother Savannah Guthrie continues nearly five months after her disappearance, and now a former FBI agent is responding to reports that the Today show co-host took extraordinary steps to find answers.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31. Despite an extensive investigation involving local authorities and the FBI, a suspect has not yet been identified, and Nancy remains missing.

According to a recent report by the publication The US Sun , Savannah reportedly spent approximately $500,000 on additional investigative efforts, including hiring a private investigator to work alongside law enforcement. This information has not yet been officially confirmed by Savannah's family, the FBI, or the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
However, the possibility has sparked debate among experts familiar with high-profile missing persons cases.
In an interview with the publication Parade Former FBI Special Agent Jason Pack said he fully understands why a family in Savannah's situation might seek outside help. "I have the utmost respect for that decision," Pack said. "When it comes to your mother, you exhaust all your options.".

Jason explained that experienced private investigators can sometimes supplement ongoing law enforcement efforts by pursuing leads, conducting interviews, and dedicating resources to a case without interfering with official investigations.
«"A well-resourced investigator can follow leads and conduct interviews in a way that complements the work of law enforcement without interfering with it," he added.
The former agent also rejected suggestions that involving outsiders automatically indicates a lack of trust in the authorities.

«"Overall, I think, despite the hints and rumors, it's not really a lack of trust in the investigative team per se," Jason said. "I see it more as the daughter and family doing the best they can. Many families do the same.".
The case has gained national attention in recent months, especially after investigators released surveillance footage and photographs showing a masked man outside Nancy's home around the time she disappeared.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for information, and Savannah remains vocal about her determination to find her mother and bring her home safely.

Earlier this month, the journalist posted a touching message on Instagram for Mother's Day, expressing the family's grief and urging anyone with information to come forward.

The TV star also reminded her followers that a $1 million reward is still being offered for information that could help solve the mystery.
