Steve Carell left a funny message for his castmates. Four Seasons , when the series was renewed for a second season.
During the Netflix comedy's second season premiere at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre, Kerri Kenney-Silver, who reprises her role as Anne, spoke about her co-star's reaction to the show's renewal.
Kenney-Silver, 56, says the cast currently has two group chats. One was created during the filming of the first season in Puerto Rico, and the other was created only after a second season was renewed and did not include Carell, whose character Nick dies at the end of the first season.

As a result, Tina Fey "started shooting a new movie called 'Ocean Cake 2,'" says Kenney-Silver. "She said, 'Maybe we should make a new movie without Steve so he won't be so upset about missing out on all the fun.'".
Will Forte adds that they simply "didn't want to bother him" with their season two dinner plans and "hundreds of messages." But the cast will still "return" to their main chat, and Carell will remain there when needed.
Forte, Fey, and Kenney-Silver star in the second season alongside Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen, and Marco Calvani. Although Nick, played by Carell, was actually dead for most of the second season, his character returns via flashback in the final episodes.
In the sixth episode, "A Little Thanksgiving," viewers are transported back in time to Thanksgiving in the age of COVID-19, with 63-year-old Carell returning to his role. "For me, it was like the day everyone gets ice cream, you know? I was really looking forward to him coming back because that's when we all feel complete, when we're all together," says Kenney-Silver.
«"Off set, we're still together in the sense that we're still this group, we still exist in a world of text messages," she adds. "We're constantly communicating with each other, and we're going to see each other tonight and all that. So Steve Carell is still alive and kicking. But I think it would be really tough in this house without him.".
Forte, 55, calls Carell's return to the set "pure joy," but the emotional impact of the storyline only hit him after watching the episode. "Just watching the episode, I really felt that emotion, because he's still in our lives, yeah, he's still around," Forte says. "But, my God, the way they did that episode, that flashback episode, it's so well done that it makes you wonder, 'Wait, what the hell is going on here?'"«
He adds: "And then, at the very end of the next episode, after you saw the flashback and were alone in the house again, oh, it was crushing.".
