Faris has been open about her love for the comedy and the amount of work it took to create it.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, the host of the podcast Happy Sad Confused, June 4, star film "Scary Movie"« She said she pitched the film's concept about twenty times before Sandler decided to produce.

«We walked away. And then we sold it,» Faris added. «It was our last [opportunity]. There were no others. It was amazing. And then, six to eight weeks later, I was on set in Los Angeles with a crew of about 200 people.».

In 2024, Faris told PEOPLE magazine about her love for the title character—and her hilarious idea for a sequel.

«"I always dream," the star said, adding of her vision for the sequel: "For a while I was like, 'Shelly should be a bad country singer,' and then I decided, 'No, she should be a CIA investigator.'".

«"Her skill is to disarm people because she's perceived, and it's true, as very open and non-judgmental. So I imagined Shelley saying," Faris continued, playfully adding in her character's voice, "'What do I do? I'm a CIA investigator.' Let's write a script. I'd love that.".

Faris added that she really enjoyed playing Shelly in the 2008 film because she was "a character who wasn't competitive with other people and was really wonderful.".
