Parsons stated that he would happily let generative artificial intelligence disappear if he had a choice. "If I could snap my fingers and make generative AI disappear forever, I probably would," he said. Parsons added that using such tools doesn't bring him creative satisfaction, explaining, "For me, it completely defeats the purpose (Via Variety).".
The YouTuber and director isn't entirely opposed to AI. He acknowledged that it could be quite useful for certain visual effects tasks and for reducing tedious, monotonous work. However, Parsons also believes the AI debate isn't so simple. In his view, there are already real-world implications associated with the technology's rapid advancement, making it difficult to simply discuss it as another filmmaking tool.
Interestingly, Kane Pixels doesn't avoid the topic entirely. He said he's interested in exploring AI as a research topic in future articles. He described the flood of AI-generated images on the internet and in advertising as part of contemporary visual culture, calling generative AI less an innovation than a "symptom of a broader cultural and economic decline." Rather than using AI to create art, he wants to explore what it represents through filmmaking.
Parsons's position contrasts with that of renowned director Martin Scorsese, who recently began working with the artificial intelligence company Black Forest Labs as a consultant. Scorsese stated that he is interested in how technology and storytelling can work together to expand creative possibilities. The filmmaker explained that AI tools can help him more clearly communicate visual ideas to production designers, cinematographers, and other participants during pre-production.
