In the program Real Time With Bill Maher Bill Maher has sharply criticized former President Joe Biden and also lashed out at recent college graduates and artificial intelligence.
On Friday, June 5, Maher, 70, criticized artificial intelligence in the "New Rules" segment of his evening show. "It's senior season, the time of year when students transition from college life to living in their parents' basement," he joked.
Maher then noted, "As for the degree you've earned, that's a little more complicated," before showing videos of graduates booing references to AI in recent commencement speeches.
He added, "I have to say, the kids are right. They're right to fear that in the age of artificial intelligence, their degree will be about as useful as unused Spirit Airlines miles. Isn't that the fundamental question we should be asking about education right now? Now that everything can be answered by asking a phone, why should we bother going to college at all?"«
Maher, highlighting the growing capabilities of AI and its potential to replace human jobs, also addressed college professors' complaints about students' lack of basic skills. "Why bother learning context when ChatGPT can not only give me the answer but also praise me for asking such an insightful question?" the stand-up comedian quipped.
Maher continued, "We cleared out the kids' heads, graduating them from high school without knowing anything. And then, at just the right moment, robots showed up and said, 'No problem, I'm with you. I'm your brain now.' This is one big, grand experiment we're conducting here. Can humans survive if we completely outsource all our thoughts to someone else?"«
Then he joked, "Like Jill Biden did for Joe.".
After prolonged applause and cheers from the audience, Maher joked, "fake laugh machine" - a tongue-in-cheek reference to President Donald Trump's latest social media attack on him, echoing his words from earlier in the episode. Real Time .
