Cara Delevingne revealed she suffered an epileptic seizure at the 2022 Burning Man festival, even before the infamous photos were taken. The Suicide Squad actress admitted on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday that she realized she had a drug problem when she started taking them every day, even when she was alone.
Kara had planned to quit drugs after a "wild 30th birthday celebration" in August 2022, but quitting proved harder than expected, and she headed to a festival in the Nevada desert later that month.
After the festival, the 33-year-old singer became concerned when she was photographed at Los Angeles Airport looking disheveled, prompting her to check into rehab later that year.
«"I thought it would be so easy. I didn't know how addictive it was," she shared on the podcast, according to Just Jared. "I just thought I was taking it every day. I didn't know you had to go through medical detox for it, and I started having seizures, and literally, these photos were taken right after I had a seizure at Burning Man.".
The former model noted that the photos were taken while she was heading to a work event, and that the "real scandal" caused by the pictures was a "very difficult" ordeal for her after her birthday.
Speaking about going to Burning Man after deciding to quit drinking, she added, "I just, I don't know, there's something pretty traditional about it in the sense that once I make that decision, it's bound to happen. But I also couldn't give up that easily. Because then, obviously, I went straight to Burning Man, and that's what happened.".
Earlier that year, Kara began dating musician and former high school friend Leah Mason, also known as Minke, and immediately opened up to her about her struggles with drug addiction.
«"I thought, 'Oh no, I'm starting to understand how bad this is.' I guess when you're single and unmarried, you don't realize how bad it is. And I was honest with her from the start: 'I have a problem. I take GHB and GBL every day. I'm going to get better,'" she recalled frankly.
After leaving rehab, Kara turned to music and began writing songs about her experiences. Her debut album will be released this summer.
