What is ceramic tile?
This material is a product of fired clay. Ceramic tiles are used not only for wall cladding but also for floors and even ceilings. Typically, they are rectangular slabs. Sizes vary significantly.
It's worth noting that ceramic tiles have been used by humanity for many years, even millennia. According to researchers, tiles were already in use in the third millennium BC, as evidenced by archaeological finds.
The scope of use of wall ceramic tiles
Wall tiles are in high demand these days. They are especially popular in rooms with high humidity, particularly bathrooms and kitchens.
The scope of use of this material is not as wide as, for example, when talking about vinyl wallpaper, but the fact is that there are cases when there is simply no alternative.
Advantages of ceramic tiles
- Resistance to high humidity.
- Abrasion resistance.
- High strength characteristics.
- Huge assortment.
- Durability.
- Resistance to low and high temperatures, as well as temperature changes.
It is also worth mentioning here that it can be washed using any household chemicals.
Disadvantages of ceramic wall tiles
This material has few disadvantages.
- Difficulty of installation.
- Cold.
- Small scope of application.
- Demanding on the base in terms of strength.
- Difficulty of cutting.
The worst part is that ceramic tiles are truly difficult to install. Finishing walls with this material requires experience and all the necessary knowledge, not to mention the necessary tools.
Installation of wall ceramic tiles
We won't go into detail about the technology, of course, as we've already talked about tiling walls with ceramic tiles.
In stages.
- Prepare the base. It must be level, strong, and clean.
- Preparation of tile adhesive.
- Applying glue to the wall using a notched trowel.
- Installing the first tile.
- Tapping with a rubber mallet
- Arrangement of tile crosses on all sides of the tile, two on each.
- Installing the second tile close to the crosses.
- Grouting, namely removing the mortar between the tiles and from them, if required.
- Installation of the next tiles.
- Sealing the joints using tile grout.
In general, wall tiles are a very good finishing material, they are also perfect for kitchen backsplashes.
