David Muir may have his signature slicked-back hairstyle, but he doesn't always wear a suit.
The ABC news veteran is best known for his consistently elegant appearances on the program. World News Tonight , which he has hosted since 2014, as well as weekend editions since 2007.
However, in his latest episode, which showcases life outside the newsroom, he showed a rare glimpse of himself in a more brutal guise.
David reunited with Axel after vacation (Instagram)
Over the weekend, 52-year-old David posted a sweet photo on Instagram of himself in his car with his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Axel, resting his head against the open window.
Meanwhile, David sits behind the wheel, wearing dark sunglasses and his usually slicked-back hair, with the rare wavy locks framing his face.
David recently returned home to New York from a trip to Spain and Italy, photos of which he also posted on Instagram, including shots of himself in rough clothes, without a suit.
The presenter shared a rare photo of his hair down during a break on World News Tonight (Instagram).
Some photos show him arranging flowers, others boating in Italy, and still others wearing a white V-neck shirt that shows off his biceps.
«"My heart is overflowing with joy and I'm still smiling," he wrote, and fans and friends immediately responded in the comments section, expressing their delight. His 20/20 co-host Deborah Roberts wrote, "You've hit my happy place!!"»

David resides in Manhattan, where he previously owned a West Village townhouse that was reportedly listed for sale in May 2025.

Besides his Manhattan home, David, who was born in Syracuse and raised in Onondaga Hills, also spends time at his home in upstate New York. According to documents filed with the Onondaga County Clerk's Office in 2019, the seasoned reporter purchased this Skaneateles Lake property for a hefty $7 million. Built in 1890, the 4,300-square-foot home boasts six bedrooms, two kitchens, three bathrooms, and a stunning fireplace.
