Peter Phillips and Harriet Spurling's teenage daughters took centre stage at their royal wedding.

NEED TO KNOW

  • The wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Spurling united their newly formed blended family.

  • This is the second marriage for both the bride and the groom, and both are already parents from their first marriages.

  • Peter's two daughters, Savannah and Isla, were previously spotted with Harriet's daughter, Georgina, at an Easter church service in April.

The wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Spurling will also be a significant event for their three daughters.

Peter, 48, and Harriet, 45, an NHS nurse, were married on Saturday, June 6, at All Saints Church in Kemble, a village in Gloucestershire, England.

The wedding made Peter the first of Queen Elizabeth's eight grandchildren to remarry. (His cousins Prince William, Prince Harry, Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie are currently married, while the late monarch's two youngest grandchildren—Lady Louise, 22, and James, Earl of Wessex, 18—have not yet married.)

In addition to this being the second marriage for the bride and groom, both are already parents. Peter has two daughters—Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14—from his previous marriage to Autumn Kelly, and Harriet has 13-year-old Georgina from her relationship with fitness instructor Antonio St. John Sperling.

The trio of newly minted stepsisters were bridesmaids on their parents' wedding day, wearing identical white short-sleeved dresses and flower crowns, and held up the train of Harriet's dress on a rainy spring day.

Other members of the royal family present at the wedding included King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, as well as Peter's mother, Princess Anne, and her husband, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence, and Peter's sister, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike Tindall.

Savannah, Isla, and Georgina have already made their first public appearance together. In April, the trio was spotted walking together outside church during the royal family's Easter service, all dressed in matching navy blue outfits.

Peter and Harriet will not be the first to remarry in the British royal family. However, King Charles and Queen Camilla's children from their first marriages were already adults when the couple married in 2005, and Princess Anne married Sir Tim Laurence, who had no children of his own.

Peter and Zara gained a half-sister after their father, Mark Phillips, remarried to Sandy Pflueger and had a daughter, Stephanie, in 1997. Stephanie was a bridesmaid at Peter's first wedding in 2008, as well as at Zara's wedding to Mike Tindall in 2011. The sisters also attended Stephanie's wedding to William Hozier in 2022, where Peter and Zara's daughters served as junior bridesmaids. (Peter and Zara also have another half-sister from Mark's extramarital affair during his marriage to Princess Anne, but it is unknown if they ever met.)

Although Peter will be the first member of his generation of British royals to remarry, he won't be the first to assume the role of stepmother. Princess Beatrice became a stepmother after marrying Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020. Edoardo had a son, Christopher Wolfe, known as "Wolfie," now 10, from a previous relationship. Beatrice and Edo also had two daughters, Sienna and Athena.

In 2021, Princess Beatrice told the publication The London Standard , who considers it a great honor to be Wolfie's stepmother. A source close to the couple also told PEOPLE in 2020 that Beatrice is a "wonderful and very caring stepmother" and has accepted Wolfie "as a part of her life from the very beginning.".

Beatrice and Edo have a co-parenting relationship with Wolfie's mother, Dara Huang, who told the outlet in 2024 Harper's Bazaar UK, that her son has "two sets of parents who are trying to help him from both sides.".

«"I just think, 'The more, the merrier,'" Dara added. "I'm lucky he has such positive people around him who truly support him—because things could have been more challenging.".

«"It's all about your perspective," she continued. "I don't understand people who get divorced and then use their children as collateral; it doesn't make any sense. It's about creating a happy home and a comfortable life.".
