Jessica Simpson opens up about her journey to sobriety in a new song.

In video footage obtained by TMZ from fans, the 45-year-old singer gave the crowd a glimpse into the inspiration behind her new song, "Give It All Away," during her performance at Yaamava' Resort & Casino in Highland, California, on Monday, June 1.

«"I didn't understand all the trauma that was clinging to me," said the "Take My Breath Away" singer, who has been sober for nearly nine years. "It was really painful, and when I started looking for something within myself that I could reveal, it was because I had become the very thing I was afraid of.".

Simpson told her fans that she became "someone I just didn't know and didn't understand, and I was a mother and I felt like I wasn't a good role model.".

The singer, known for her hit "I Wanna Love You Forever," has three children with her ex-husband, football player Eric Johnson, from whom she separated.

However, the former reality TV star said she "felt very lonely.".

«"It wasn't until a year later that I realized that alcohol wasn't dulling my pain, but rather, making it worse," Simpson said. "It was just a crutch that wasn't working.".

Before unveiling the new song, she added, "Honestly, I'm just in the process of self-improvement, and I'm grateful for every day that I feel alive, and I'm so proud of myself, so it felt right to share this song with you. I want you all to know that you need to be a little gentle with yourself, and everything will be okay if you just give it your all. That's what this song is about.".

Actress from film "All's Fair"« She has been open about her sobriety and celebrated the momentous decision in an Instagram post in November 2025.

«"Eight years ago today, I made a choice to face, confess, and let go of the parts of my life that were destroying me," she wrote then, accompanying the post with a single photo. "This decision allowed me to fully commit to fulfilling God's purpose for my life. Alcohol had dulled my intuition, blocked my dreams, and haunted my fears of complacency.".

«"Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith," she continued. "Both fear and faith are things we feel but may not see. I am so glad I chose faith over fear. I found strength not in struggle, but in surrender.".

She also spoke out against those who accused her of returning to old habits.

In August 2024, the star of the series «The Dukes of Hazzard» corrected a commenter who wrote under Ace's 11th birthday post that Simpson should "STOP DRINKING!".

«"I haven't had the desire to drink or even touch alcohol since October 2017, and it was the best decision I made for myself and my family," Simpson replied. "Thank you for your concern, but you've misunderstood me greatly. Sending you my love.".
