Neon has announced the premiere date of Na Hong-jin's Cannes Film Festival-winning sci-fi film, Hope.

EXCLUSIVE : Neon has set a North American release date for Na Hong-jin's sci-fi hit "« Hope »", shown at the Cannes Film Festival, on Wednesday, September 9.

Following a successful debut at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where the film was screened in competition, the sci-fi action film recently achieved one of the highest overseas pre-sales figures for a Korean film, reaching over 200 worldwide.

The film takes place in the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor. Police outpost commander Beom-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and officer Seon-ae (Ho-young) are tasked with finding a mysterious creature wreaking havoc in the village. In the nearby forest, a group of local hunters, including Seon-ki (Jo In-sung), set out to find the beast but instead become hunted. However, not everything is so simple, and perceptions can be deceiving.

Starring Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Ho-young, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender.

In Deadline's review of the film, published at Cannes, Pete Hammond wrote: "Fasten your seatbelts. Cannes has just premiered «"Hope", "A sci-fi alien monster mash-up from South Korean director Na Hong-jin that never lets up for two and a half hours and outshines Hollywood films of its kind.".

The film is written and directed by Na Hong-jin, produced by Forged Films in association with Plus M Entertainment and Westworld, and presented and distributed by Plus M Entertainment. A Korean release is planned for this summer.
