Jessica Simpson reflects on overcoming alcohol addiction: "Alcohol didn't dull my pain, it actually made it worse.".

Jessica Simpson celebrated eight years of sobriety in November, and during her concert on Monday (June 1) in Highland, California, she took time to reflect on her journey to overcoming alcoholism.

«"I didn't understand all the traumas I'd been harboring. And it became very painful when I started searching for something within myself I could reveal," the singer and fashion designer said. "I became what I feared, what I didn't know or understand.".

The 45-year-old woman continued: "I was a mother and felt like I wasn't setting a good role model, and it wasn't until a year later that I realized that alcohol wasn't dulling my pain, but rather exacerbating it. It was a crutch that wasn't working.".

Before performing a new song called "Give It All Away" at a concert on Monday, Simpson opened up about the challenges and trials she had to overcome to achieve sobriety.

«"Honestly, I'm still working on myself, and I appreciate every day that I feel alive and in my body, and I'm so proud of myself, so it felt right to share this song with you," she added. "I want you all to know that you need to be a little gentle with yourself, and everything will be okay if you just give it your all.".

The singer, known for her hit "Take My Breath Away" and mother of three, celebrated eight years of sobriety on November 1. She made this important decision to pull herself together after a drunken Halloween in 2017, when she realized she needed to change her lifestyle, which she detailed in her 2020 memoir. «Open Book.

«"Eight years ago today, I made a choice to face, own, and let go of the parts of my life that were ruining me," Simpson wrote on Instagram. "That decision allowed me to fully commit to fulfilling God's purpose for my life. Alcohol was dulling my intuition, blocking my dreams, and fueling my fears of complacency.".

She continued, "Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are things we feel but may not see. I am so glad I chose faith over fear. I found strength not in struggle, but in surrender.".

Jessica Simpson returned to music in 2025 with two EPs: Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 and its continuation , Pt. 2. The former reality TV star is back on tour in the US with upcoming shows in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Waterloo, New York, and Kettering, Ohio, later this month.
