John Travolta went viral online this month when he attended the 2026 Cannes Film Festival wearing a beret, and he loved the reaction to his new look.
Travolta attended the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his directorial debut,« One-way night bus with a propeller» , which was shown in the festival's out-of-competition section on May 15. On the same day as the premiere, he also showed off his new beret look at the premiere of the French psychological thriller «"Karma".
In an interview with CNN last week (May 18), he explained that his look was inspired by what directors used to wear at premieres. "Old-school directors wore berets and glasses. And I thought, 'That's what I'm going to do,'" he shared. "I've been in the film industry for over 50 years, but looking back, I don't see any difference between those events. And I said to myself, 'This time I'm the director. You're the actor, play the director. Look like an old-school director.'".
He added that he "looked at photographs" of talented filmmakers from different eras for inspiration, clearly making the most of the opportunity to present his directorial debut at Cannes. At the festival, he wore a total of three different berets: an ivory beret, a navy blue one, and a black one during a photo shoot for the film. «One-way night bus with a propeller» .
