In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, Kurt Russell opened up about his decision to move from Los Angeles to Colorado with his partner Goldie Hawn.

Kurt Russell sees plenty of opportunity in Colorado.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, given at the panel Madison At the FYC in Los Angeles on May 30, the 75-year-old actor spoke about his move from Los Angeles to Colorado, where he and his partner Goldie Hawn own a log cabin.
Russell says the home allows him to do "the things I want to do every day.".
«"I want to see what I want to do, what I want to be a part of—everything Colorado has to offer," he explained. "Ultimately, I'd like to go into farming.".
Russell added: "When Goldie and I got together a couple of years later, we built a ranch there together, where our family grew up. That was 40 years ago.".

However, Russell emphasized that while he wasn't trying to "escape" Los Angeles when he made the decision to leave, it wasn't a common choice among his entertainment industry peers at the time.
«"I didn't run away. I just lived where I lived," he said. "I'm lucky it didn't really change anything. But when I did, no one else did. A lot of people said to me, 'Well, that's it. That's it.' I said, 'Well, we'll see.'".
Russell said he has since noticed more people leaving Los Angeles in the years since he moved.
«"I don't dislike Los Angeles," he told PEOPLE. "It's just not the lifestyle I'd prefer.".
«"You have to understand something about Old Snowmass," he added. "Everyone who lives there lives there because they want to. I can't say that about Los Angeles.".

Russell also told PEOPLE that he and Hawn, 80, wanted to take the opportunity to share the Colorado experience with their children.
Together, they are parents to children: Boston Russell, whom Kurt had with ex-wife Season Hubley; Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson from Goldie's previous relationship with Bill Hudson; and Wyatt Russell, the couple's youngest child, whom they had together.
«"Living in Colorado is very different from living in the city," Russell told PEOPLE. "They grew up enjoying nature. It has its challenges, but it also has great benefits. I just feel more comfortable there.".
«"It was just like growing up in Maine," he continued, recalling his childhood. "I guess when you encounter something like that, it's always home. Everything we did there, what we built, and what we can offer our kids—I'm so glad we were able to do it.".
