Lena Ze Plug is denying reports of a divorce from her husband, podcaster Adam22, claiming the stalker stole her identity and filed false court documents without her knowledge or consent.
In a video posted to Instagram, Lena, whose real name is Lena Nersesyan, said she discovered an attempt to file for divorce in her name last month after receiving rejected court papers mailed to her home address.
«"I'm here to sort out this chaos," she said. "Last month, I checked my mailbox, and there were all these rejected court documents. Someone was trying to file for divorce in my name.".
The documents listed her name, home address, her daughter's name and birth date, and a check for $435. Nersesyan said she recognized the name printed on the check—it matched the name police gave her during two separate well-being checks at her residence, during which, according to police, the caller reported being abused by her husband.
«"I look at the name on the check and start to panic a little because I remember that name," she said. "The name on the check matches the name the police gave me when they came to my home twice for a well-being check, claiming someone had called and said my husband was beating me.".
Nersesyan said she let police inside during these visits and denied making the calls herself.
«"I let the police in. I assured them I hadn't called, but I remembered the name. It was a name that was hard to forget," she said. "And so when I received these court documents that were rejected, I thought, 'This is scary. Who is this person? What are they doing? Did they really file something in my name?'"»
Nersesyan said she contacted both the court and the police. The court initially told her there were no documents in her name, but then said they couldn't flag her account.
«"There's nothing in your name. They couldn't file the documents. We can't mark anything on your bill because there's nothing in your name, so just keep calling," she recalled the court staff telling her.
The police told her that the situation involved identity fraud and advised her to file a report.
«"This person is forging your signature, pretending to be you. I would just file it as identity theft," she said, recalling the police's words. On May 6, she filed a police report for identity theft.
«"I thought, 'Okay, I hope this is over,'" she said.
She said she thought the matter was settled until her husband informed her that TMZ had published a report about their divorce. A subsequent call to the court confirmed that the case had been registered in her name.
«"Adam tells me TMZ is reporting our divorce. I'm like, 'Oh no, it happened,'" she said. "I call the court, and they say, 'Yeah, there's a case number, and you filed for divorce.' I say, 'But it wasn't me. What do I do?' They say, 'We don't know. We've never been in this situation before. Technically, you filed for divorce.'".
Nersesyan stated that she is currently hiring a lawyer to withdraw the complaint. She speculated that the person responsible, whom she referred to only as "John," may have been in contact with someone posing as her online, who may have extorted money from her by falsely claiming that Adam22 was behaving aggressively.
«"My theory is that this man, John, is being contacted by a scammer who is posing as me online, and this person is trying to scam John out of money. He's claiming that Adam is abusing me. He's claiming everything that's essentially in the TMZ report, but it's all untrue," she said.
She directly denied the essence of the TMZ report.
«"Adam doesn't control all my finances. I make over three thousand dollars a month. I'm not filing for custody. I have no intention of getting divorced," she said. "I love my husband. We've been together for ten years, and I know you're all plotting our downfall, but it won't happen. That day hasn't come yet.".
Nersesyan said what happened was shocking in terms of the chronology of events.
«"I found out about the divorce at the same time as you. It's such a strange situation. Honestly, if it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it," she said.
Nersesyan and Adam22, whose real name is Adam Grandmaison, have been together for ten years. They are raising a daughter together.
Nersesyan concluded the video by noting one unintended consequence of the media coverage: an increase in views of the Taylor Swift-inspired music video her husband made for her birthday.
«"The Taylor Swift music video Adam made for me for my birthday is getting more and more views," she said. "It's such a masterpiece that I'm so happy more people are seeing it. So that's the silver lining. I'll have to figure out how to fix this.".
