Lisa Jakub recently recalled one of the most memorable moments of her early career—and one of the most meaningful acts of kindness she received while filming a movie. «Mrs. Doubtfire» .
During a May 29, 2026, reunion for the cast of the 1993 comedy, the former child star, who played Lydia Hillard, the eldest daughter of Robin Williams' character in the film, recalled a challenging moment off-set and the unexpected support she received from her famous co-star.
«"Robin was one of those people who, if he saw that one of us was upset or not feeling well, he would definitely check in to see how we were doing," Jakub told the audience.

The film "Mrs. Doubtfire"« , directed by Chris Columbus, was a big hit, starring Williams, along with Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Matthew Lawrence, Mara Wilson and Jakub.
While audiences remember the film for its humor and warmth, Jakub said that balancing work and school during filming wasn't always easy. Reflecting on that period, she explained that her high school in Canada struggled to accommodate her schedule.
«"At some point, it became too much of a burden for the teachers at my school," Yakub shared. "They weren't used to child actors.".
The situation eventually escalated when the school effectively banned her from returning.
«"They sent me a letter with my schoolwork saying, 'It was fun, but don't come to school anymore. It's too much work for our teachers,'" Jakub recalls. "It really upset me. Being kicked out of school at 14 is a bit of a bummer.".

On set, Williams quickly noticed something was wrong with Jakub and contacted him. According to the 47-year-old actress, she told him what had happened, and he responded in a way she will never forget.
«"He wrote a letter to my principal that I still have," she said. "It was an incredibly kind and touching letter that said, 'Lisa is just trying to balance her career and education, so please support her in that.'".
And while the letter didn't convince the school to accept her back, Jakub said that wasn't the issue. "This isn't a story about things not working out. It's a story about how kind Robin was," she emphasized.
For Jakub, this memory remains a vivid example of the kind of person Williams was behind the scenes. "He really worked hard for me, as he did for all of us in different ways," Jakub said.
