Netflix aired the first season in 2023. «"Yu Yu Hakusho", film adaptations of the beloved Japanese manga Yoshihiro Togashi . Now, nearly three years later, the series appears to have been quietly renewed, and plans to return viewers to the spirit world are rumored to be in full swing.
The series tells the story of a high school student, Yusuke Urameshi ( Takumi Kitamura ), who unexpectedly dies while saving a child from a car accident. As the story unfolds, Yusuke is allowed to be resurrected, but at a price: he must become a supernatural detective and assist in investigating such events.
The first season, consisting of 5 episodes, aired on December 14, 2023 and adapted the first 110 chapters of the original manga, with storylines controversially shortened, combined, or ignored altogether.
According to Tokyo Sports, there are 66 chapters left until the manga adaptation is completed, and production on the series' second season is expected to begin this fall.
The original manga was published in a Japanese weekly manga (comic) magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from December 3, 1990 until its completion on July 25, 1994. The chapters were collected and published in 19 volumes, and then translated into English and published by VIZ.
Based on the series, a popular animated adaptation ("anime") was created in 1992, which aired from October 10, 1992 to January 7, 1995.
In addition to the anime adaptation, two feature-length films were made based on the series. The film of the same name «Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie» was released in 1993, and «Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie: Poltergeist Report - in 1994.
The creator of this series later moved on to create another popular series, Hunter X Hunter, which he has been publishing periodically since 1998.
Exact details about the proposed second season YuYu Hakusho have not yet been revealed; therefore, there is no confirmation of which actors will return or which new characters will join the series, nor is there any confirmation of when the second season might release.
According to Netflix Japan's Vice President of Content Kaata Sakamoto In an interview with Hyper Beast, "the five-episode live-action series Yu Yu Hakusho took nearly five years to create—two years of pre-production, over 10 months of filming, and another two years of post-production." Fans are hoping that the second season of the series won't take that long to return.
