Bryson's family announced that the veteran performer of the hit "A Whole New World" suffered a stroke on Sunday. The cause of death has not yet been released.
Peabo Bryson, one of the giants of R&B music who gained worldwide fame thanks to the song "A Whole New World" from the soundtrack to the 1992 Disney animated film "Aladdin," has died.
Bryson's family issued a statement on Tuesday, days after telling the world the singer had suffered a stroke and was recovering.
«"It is with broken hearts and profound sorrow that the family of two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and balladeer Peabo Bryson announces his passing," the statement reads. "He passed away peacefully at 5:00 PM ET on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and those closest to him.".
It continued: "For more than five decades, Peabo's extraordinary voice has served as the soundtrack to life's most cherished moments. His music has accompanied generations through joyful celebrations, beautiful love stories, and unforgettable moments of comfort and inspiration, creating a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him and the countless lives he touched with his song.".

Known for his hit ballads with Regina Belle, Celine Dion, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, and others, Bryson also achieved great success with his solo hits, including "Feel the Fire" (1977), "If You're Ever in My Arms Again" (1984), "Show and Tell," and "Can You Stop the Rain." Along with "A Whole New World," he achieved further worldwide success by performing the title song to the 1991 Disney film Beauty and the Beast with Dion.
Bryson is survived by his wife, Tanya Boniface Bryson, their son, Robert, and daughter, Linda Bryson. Funeral arrangements and memorial services will be announced later.
