Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are teaming up for a new documentary series on Disney+. The show will focus on the Australian yacht BONDS Flying Roos, owned by both actors. Jackman shared the news on X, hinting that one of them will eventually end up in the water.
Disney+ has greenlit a series chronicling the Australian team's global sailing season. The BONDS Flying Roos, formerly known as the Australia SailGP Team, is competing in the stadium-based championship. Olympic gold medalist and three-time SailGP champion Tom Slingsby leads the team as both pilot and CEO.
The documentary series will combine humor, suspense, and behind-the-scenes access to the sport. "This is our first collaboration since Deadpool and Wolverine, and we're expecting action, comedy, and heart again, but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there are pirates in SailGP," Jackman and Reynolds said in a joint statement.
Eric Schreier, president of Disney's Direct-to-Consumer International Originals, expressed enthusiasm for the project. The documentary series was created by Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions in partnership with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team.
Brent Hodge will serve as director and showrunner for the upcoming series. Rob Mac, co-chairman of Wrexham Football Club and executive producer of Welcome to Wrexham, will also serve as executive producer. The series will air on Disney+ globally, and on Disney+ and Hulu in the US.
