Season 23 «Marine Corps» ended on a surprise note, but Sean Murray is excited about what it could mean for Tim McGee. With the 2026 TV schedule expected to see some resolution to the situation surrounding McGee's son's shooting of Torres, the actor was excited to discuss what it could mean for his character in upcoming episodes. "Now I'm really looking forward to the show coming back and seeing how it all unfolds," he said.
Murray was a guest on the official podcast NCIS , Partners & Probies . During a conversation with his castmates Diona Reasonver and Brian Dietzen, the hosts mentioned that Season 23 revealed many details about McGee's past and, of course, ended with a cliffhanger finale, which the showrunner has already slightly lifted the veil of secrecy. Nevertheless, the actor shared what we learned and how he thinks it will impact his character going forward:
We've been messing with McGee a little bit, and, you know, I've always felt like McGee has planned his life out a certain way and needs to compartmentalize things. And anything that disrupts that balance, for me—I think it's fun—to try to find the middle ground.
Will McGee be able to find peace after his son was shot by another agent, or vice versa? I think he'll struggle to find his way, and it's precisely these profound changes that delight Sean Murray and keep him interested in the series for the decades he's played the character.

The NCIS star is really hoping to join LL Cool J's New York City spinoff, and I'd love it.
Although CinemaBlend previously speculated that Sean Murray might be excluded from TV series "NCIS"« , it seems he still has plenty of plot material. And that's a good thing, since he's the one most closely associated with Gibbs, who quietly returned to help Alden Parker deal with Director Vance's killer. Although Mark Harmon's character didn't appear onscreen, he was hinted at, with the killer being a skilled sniper, and Parker cooking "fresh Alaskan salmon," presumably from Gibbs.
We learned that this moment will be important for Parker and may reveal that the current head of department isn't as blameless as viewers might have thought. I think that, as one of the most experienced members of the team, McGee may have to put Parker in his place and ensure that the NCIS team as a whole remains lawful and isn't as corrupt as those they've fought.
