Kylie Minogue is "the hardest working woman alive", according to the Coventry director behind the musical I Should Be So Lucky, based on the Australian singer.
Debbie Isit, who also created the Christmas film series Nativity, wrote and directed the show, and even came up with the role for the pop star after one of the producers suggested Minogue might take part.
«"She's an incredibly hard-working woman, she never stops and she's constantly traveling all over the world, so she takes making sure things are done right very seriously," she said.
A three-part documentary about Minogue's life and career is currently being produced and released on Netflix.
I Should Be So Lucky features eight songs from the former Neighbours actress, all written by Stock, Aitken and Waterman.
The musical was created by Debbie Isit in 2023 and its title is taken from Kylie Minogue's 1987 hit [BBC/Chloée French].
Isitt said she had to hold a virtual meeting with the pop diva, who was in Melbourne at the time, to tell her the story of the musical and convince her to come to the UK to film a scene that would be included in the stage production.
«"She was so excited to perform her old songs again, she came to meet me and then to rehearsal, and I filmed her as a hologram—she appears in the mirror throughout the performance. She looks amazing in this production," Isit said.
The stage show premiered in Manchester in 2023 and then toured the UK in 2024, with Minogue's music video featured at every performance.
Isit, best known as the creator of the Nativity! film series starring Martin Freeman, David Tennant and Celia Imrie, said working with Minogue gave her insight into how the diva approached her career.
«"She never stops, and her time is very valuable. So she's very serious about getting things done right; she's a true professional and genuinely wants everything to work out," she said.
«"She's fun, but she takes her work very seriously.".
Isit said she enjoyed working with the star because they both have acting experience.
«"She's a good actress, and I think we sometimes forget that," she added.
«"But she's a really good actress and I'd love to work with her again in a more acting role, and she's still in great shape.".
«"She's a real booster rocket.".
