It's hard to believe, but Tyler Perry made his film debut in 2005. Since then, this Hollywood giant has written, directed, and/or produced over 35 films and nearly 20 television shows, watched by millions of viewers. While he has had some critically acclaimed projects, his fan base is incredibly devoted, and it's often thanks to them that his works rake in huge box office sales or top streaming service charts.
All things considered, this living legend has one work that perhaps stands out from the rest. Surprisingly, it doesn't feature his famous Madea character, and it's not even a comedy. However, it is a caustic family drama starring Oscar-, Golden Globe-, and Emmy-winning actresses. And now you can rewatch this classic on Netflix, as it's available on the platform since June 1st.

The Family That Hunts« , written, directed, and produced by Perry, was released on September 12, 2008. It tells the story of two families with different financial situations, each experiencing a multitude of dramatic events. It deals with infidelity, disrespect between mother and child, and a number of intriguing plot twists. The drama is admittedly a bit sentimental, but in the best possible way.
Dialogues delivered by the incomparable Oscar and Emmy Award winners Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard make «"hunting family"» one of Perry's finest performances. Bates is especially charming as the wily Charlotte Cartwright, delivering witty one-liners and hilarious comebacks. The exchange between Charlotte and her son William (Cole Hauser) is reminiscent of a tennis match at the US Open.
However, The Family That Hunts has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of only 54%.
True. The film only has a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, I'd venture to guess that the critics were too harsh. It doesn't necessarily deserve an Oscar, but it's a truly worthy film. If you have 106 minutes to spare, watch it. «"The family that hunts » yourself or watch it on Netflix today.
