ImGist - I Am the Essence

The Euphoria star details the silver slipper shootout.

In the third season «"Euphoria »"Fans of the series were introduced to the Silver Slipper, which became the setting for the final shootout between Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Rue's (Zendaya) favorite sponsor, Ali (Colman Domingo). Warning: Spoilers for the Season 3 finale follow. «Euphoria» !

A key role in this scene was played by the dancer Kitty (Anna Van Patten), whom Alamo tasked with rolling a wine bottle down the bar until it shattered, marking the beginning of their modern-day duel. Ultimately, it ended in tragedy for Alamo: he was no match for Ali's sawed-off shotgun and his empty revolver, wielded by Bishop (Darrell Britt-Gibson).

Below, Van Patten discusses the process of bringing his character to life, including the use of prosthetics, and details his crucial role in a key shootout.

When Kitty arrives at the Silver Slipper, Roo shows her a lot of kindness. Do you think she appreciates it or is she worried about how this kindness will be received by Alamo or Magic (Rosalia)?

Anna Van Patten: I think she got caught up in that moment. It's so interesting because, looking back, there was so much more going on, but I think in that moment, Kitty kind of detached herself and wasn't really thinking deeply about Rue's intentions. She was just reacting to what Rue was suggesting, right?

What was it like working closely with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje to create the connection between Kitty and Alamo?

I really loved all the scenes I filmed with him because Adewale is an amazing actor and a very kind person, and he was the complete opposite of Alamo. When you're in a scene with him, you feel incredibly powerful. So I really loved those days, and I think their relationship is a little different from the relationship between Alamo and the other dancers at the club. Alamo likes her, maybe because she's a little more naive, right? But at the same time, he definitely sees her as a way to make more money, and he's also a very dark and dangerous character.

Speaking of ways to make more money, Kitty is sent across the border to Mexico to undergo plastic surgery. What prosthetic manufacturing process was used to demonstrate these changes?

It was a completely different experience. The era with prosthetics in «Euphoria» It was just incredible. First, they scanned my buttocks, and then, because we were filming the shootout scene in "The Silver Slipper"… it was a 10-day shoot, so I wore a buttock prosthesis every day for 10 days, and it took maybe two hours to put it on. By the end of the 10th day, the process sped up, but I had to stand while the prosthesis was being put on, and I wasn't allowed to sit all day, so they made me a support device that I could lean on when I wasn't filming.

This is simply incredible!

Yes, it was really challenging, but also really fun. A lot of people thought it was a real butt. The girls at the club thought it was my real butt, so it looked really realistic in person… They drew on veins, freckles, the whole process was fascinating.

What was it like filming the shootout scene, especially given Kitty's key role?

A lot of it was so technically challenging because there were so many stunts and guns and blood that we shot it in chapters, and I'm so amazed at how it all turned out because it was such a long process, but it was so great to be there and watch, especially Coleman's performance because he's just amazing, and everyone who watched that duel between those two... I could watch it all day.

Do you think Kitty knew what happened to Roo, or does she not think about the girls who disappear around her?

I don't think she knew what happened to Roo. I think Kitty really tries to see the good in people, and a lot of people don't tell her that. So she has to figure things out on her own, and she doesn't know who to trust because there's so much going on.

Did Kitty move in with Cassie in her big house and work with Maddie?

I saw Kitty's name written on the wall in Cassie's house, and I have no idea if that's my character, but it's really interesting to think that maybe that's her future. I don't know what the future holds for her, but I think it's a really good sign that she's leaving with Maddie and Bishop.
