Quentin Tarantino isn't thrilled with most of the films coming out of Hollywood these days. In an article for Sight & Sound magazine, the Oscar winner admitted that it's "almost impossible" for him to watch a new film without criticizing it "to death." "Flaws, implausibility, pandering to the audience, poor casting, or just plain stupidity usually ruin every new movie coming out of the tacky sausage factory that once called itself Hollywood," the director explained. "These days, the very concept of film evokes more contempt than generosity in me. Which is fair enough, because the films of the last six years make the '80s seem like the '30s.".
«"Since then, I've seen a few films I enjoyed—West Side Story (2021); Horizon: An American Saga, Parts 1 and 2 (both 2024), and a few others—but none of them truly captivated me or transported me to that magical land of pleasure I used to regularly visit and which was the reason I loved cinema more than any other art form. Now I prefer reading books," Tarantino added.

Matt Damon is considering directing the duo's next film, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, after Ryan Gosling dropped out.
But one film that has recently caught Tarantino's attention is none other than "Breakdown." Directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the Netflix crime drama hit the streaming service in January and follows two Miami-Dade police officers who uncover corruption within their ranks involving $20 million in drug money. The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, and Kyle Chandler.
«"A gripping new film has arrived that truly captivated me and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time," Tarantino wrote of the film. "It's a gripping police thriller with an original premise that cleverly throws surprises. I loved everything about it: Carnahan's direction, the superb cast, the visuals (thanks to cinematographer Juan Miguel Azpiros)—but the real highlight of this magnificent collection is the stunning script by Carnahan and Michael McGrail.".
Tarantino is currently working on the play "Bonnet Cavalier," scheduled for a world premiere in London's West End in 2027. The script is described as an "adventurous comedy" set in 1930s Europe. As for Tarantino's film career, the director has not yet announced which film will be his tenth and final feature before retiring.
The movie "Breakthrough" is now available to watch on Netflix.
