Quentin Tarantino called Hollywood a "flavorless sausage factory." The director criticized modern Hollywood, calling it boring and predictable.
«"Since the pandemic began... it seems almost impossible to find a new film that I haven't thoroughly studied," he wrote in an article for Sight and Sound magazine.
«"Flaws, implausibility, pandering to the audience, unsuitable actors, or just plain stupidity usually ruin every new film that comes out of the tasteless sausage factory that once called itself Hollywood.".
He added that in the past few years, "nothing has truly captivated me or transported me to the magical land of delights I used to regularly visit and for which I loved cinema more than any other art form. Now I prefer reading books.".
He wrote that while "the 1980s were pretty bad too," he could "forgive" '80s films because he "loved going to the movies." He continued, "These days, however, the very concept of a movie evokes more contempt in me than generosity.".
The director of Pulp Fiction admitted that he enjoyed the Netflix film "The Breakup," and also paid tribute to Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" and Kevin Costner's "Skyline: An American Saga: Chapters 1 and 2.".
He continued, saying that he had seen "nothing that truly captivated me and transported me to the magical land of delights that I regularly visited and which was the reason for my love of cinema above all other art forms. These days, I prefer to read books.".
He said he is currently working on an adventure play, The Cavalier King, which is scheduled to premiere in London's West End in 2027.
