Captain Mark Phillips made a rare public appearance with his ex-wife, Princess Anne.

Since Captain Mark Phillips's separation from Princess Anne in 1989 and divorce in 1992, the equestrian trainer has led a relatively private life. The 77-year-old Phillips is most often seen at equestrian competitions and supports his daughter, Zara Tindall, in her equestrian career.

However, this weekend the former British Army officer made a rare public appearance with his former extended family at the wedding of his son Peter Phillips and Harriet Spurling.

After his divorce from Anna, Mark married Sandy Pflueger, also an equestrian, and they had a daughter, Stephanie. Mark and Sandy divorced in 2012. He is now reportedly dating Florence Standard, a 44-year-old Belgian equestrian. Standard was photographed with him at his wedding yesterday.

Mark recently retired, announcing his retirement last year, ending his career in equestrian trail design. "I'm retiring from design," he said. "Although I will remain to offer my services as a consultant to anyone involved in trail design.".

Phillips shared his trail design philosophy: "I focus on six key elements: I make sure the trail has a beginning, middle, and end, that it's flowing, and that no matter the difficulty level, there are always options for less experienced riders." He continued, "Then I consider creating slower sections—not at the expense of the trail's flow, but to make the time factor more important. I also like to create challenging sections so riders actually have to ride, rather than just 'point and kick.'".

He added: "I always try to make my courses as gentle as possible for the horses, but challenging for the riders.".
