Cara Delevingne has lifted the veil of secrecy on one of the darkest periods of her life.
In a candid interview with Alex Cooper's podcast "Call Her Daddy," the actress revealed she used GHB daily before experiencing epileptic seizures, which ultimately became a wake-up call on her road to recovery. The 33-year-old Delevingne shared some of the most detailed comments yet about the drug addiction that nearly ruined her life, despite her immense professional success as a model.
While many fans attribute Delevingne's recovery to the viral paparazzi photos from Burning Man that sparked concern in 2022, she told Cooper that the reality behind the scenes was far more serious. At the time, she used GHB to "essentially black out," and then cocaine to stay awake.
Delevingne revealed that she planned to quit drinking after a wild 30th birthday celebration, following years of drug use, believing she could simply quit on her own. Instead, she discovered the extent of her physical addiction.

«"I didn't know how addictive it was," she said, referring to the drug. "I just thought I was taking it every day. I didn't know you actually needed medical detox from it. And I started having seizures, and these [2022 photos] were literally taken right after I had a seizure at Burning Man.".

Delevingne has acknowledged that substance use initially helped her cope with years of emotional turmoil caused by childhood trauma, her mother's illness, and long-standing mental health issues.
«"When I first started doing drugs, it was for social reasons," she told Cooper. "And I felt like I'd found myself, you know? I was fun. And I loved music. And I was like, 'Oh, this is someone I really like. This is really cool.'".
«I started quite early – because I didn’t have any money at the time – I started buying drugs to sell and use.».

She says what began as a way to socialize evolved into a way to isolate and disappear. Eventually, she found herself using drugs alone, and she now recognizes this turning point as a wake-up call.
«"I realized it was bad when I started doing it alone, and I really enjoyed it, and I realized people weren't judging me," Delevingne said. "And I didn't judge myself for it. I could just disappear. And I knew that was a problem.".
Delevingne acknowledged that her career was thriving while her personal life was deteriorating. The Suicide Squad star said her success often masked the seriousness of her situation because she continued to work, earn money, and maintain a public image that appeared quite prosperous.
«"When you're successful and everything seems great—you've got your makeup and hair done—that's pretty much normal," she said. "People make excuses, people make money. You're paying for other people's lives, jobs, and children, and you know, you don't want to stop. You don't want to say no.".

Cara Delevingne explained that fame and professional success helped her hide her problems from others, even when she was secretly going through a crisis.
But behind the glamorous public image, Delevingne says, there was a much darker reality than anyone imagined.
«"If I said I hid it well, people would say, 'No, I didn't.' But if people thought it was bad, they were only seeing half of it," she admitted. "The damage was done alone, because no one could stop me.".
The former Victoria's Secret model also revealed that at the height of her fame, she developed suicidal thoughts, despite seemingly having everything she ever wanted.
«"I think the suicidal thoughts came back to me when I was at the height of my fame, when I should have been happiest," Delevingne recalled. "And I felt incredibly guilty and like I didn't deserve any of this. I came very close to taking my own life.".
