Ahead of pre-orders, Grand Theft Auto VI received an official logo update. By the time GTA 6 launches on November 18th, it will have been nearly three years since the game was announced in December 2023. Rockstar Games' marketing campaign has so far released two trailers, showcasing a setting reminiscent of Miami and Vice City (as well as the fictional State of Leonidas) and the Bonnie-and-Clyde-like main characters, Jason and Lucia. Fans are still eagerly awaiting the third GTA 6 trailer, a year after the previous one, but the recent announcement of the upcoming pre-orders was accompanied by a marketing event.
Rockstar Games confirmed that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will begin on Thursday, June 25, releasing a promotional video without any new footage or the third trailer many were hoping for. However, the legendary developer did unveil a new, slightly updated logo for GTA 6, more in keeping with the franchise's traditions.
If you compare the GTA 6 logo Rockstar unveiled in December 2023 to the one shown this year before pre-orders began, a noticeable change is the white border around the vibrant Vice City aesthetic, instead of just a colorful one.
Stylistically, the updated logo, which combines a white border with a different color, is much more reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto 5, although this time it is much more striking, reflecting the change of location from Los Santos to Leonida.
The use of the white border has been a staple of Rockstar Games' frantic action games for decades, to varying degrees, so its return in GTA 6, with its release just five months away, doesn't come as a huge surprise.
The only previous GTA game to use such a bright, colorful border and logo was the 2009 expansion The Ballad of Gay Tony for Grand Theft Auto 4, which used a multi-colored border to reflect the glamorous nightlife of Liberty City.
GTA 6 is currently expected to release on November 18th only on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S, as there's no word yet on a PC version. In the meantime, you can watch the new pre-order announcement video:
What to expect from the GTA 6 marketing campaign (and the release of the 3rd trailer)?
Rockstar Games has long promised to launch its GTA 6 marketing campaign this summer, which makes sense given that the game's release is only five months away. The recent pre-order announcement should reassure gamers that Rockstar intends to stick to the official November 18 release date and won't delay it again (fingers crossed).
Despite announcing the imminent launch of pre-orders and revealing the new GTA 6 logo, Rockstar has yet to release a third trailer for the game. While nothing can be said for certain until the actual release, as Rockstar typically launches marketing campaigns with little warning, it's safe to assume the next GTA 6 trailer will be released alongside pre-orders on June 25th.
Of course, many gamers are hoping to see actual gameplay next, rather than the plethora of GTA 6 development videos that leaked online four years ago. If Rockstar follows the GTA 5peek marketing plan, fans can expect just one short gameplay snippet in late summer/early fall.
In any case, once pre-orders for GTA 6 begin, it seems likely that Rockstar will promote the game much more actively in the lead-up to its release. However, it's highly likely that Rockstar won't reveal as many of the game's secrets as it does with other modern games, as a release of GTA 6's magnitude effectively sells itself.
