On the latest episode of her Goop podcast, Gwyneth spoke with Trae Stevens, co-founder of AI-powered security company Anduril, where they discussed how to navigate today's "intense" environment and stay open to different ideas.

Gwyneth said she's personally trying to approach issues more openly. "In my current journey as an American, I'm trying to, I don't know, weave together a lot of different perspectives," she said, "and also get out of this state of righteous anger, rage, and fear. And I mean, I'm pretty centrist, and my husband thinks I'm a Republican. But I think I'm not, even though I'm not a Republican.".

Continuing to discuss her political views today, Gwyneth added: "Honestly, I don't feel anything right now. I feel completely independent.".

The comments quickly drew criticism online, with many people unhappy with Gwyneth's apparent indifference during a particularly tense moment in American politics.

The actress publicly supported former President Barack Obama during his presidency and later co-hosted a fundraiser for Pete Buttigieg's 2020 presidential campaign. However, she also raised eyebrows when she reportedly declared it an "exciting time to be an American" shortly after Donald Trump's election in 2016, and more recently praised RFK Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again" campaign as an "important" topic of discussion.
