Mike Myers expressed his gratitude to Canada in an emotional acceptance speech. The Austin Powers star was honored with the Icon Award at the Canadian Screen Awards, which took place Sunday evening at the Canadian Broadcast Centre in Toronto.
Addressing the crowd, Mike spoke about how much his home country means to him, despite having lived in New York for many years.
«"I had a whole speech written about how much I love Canada, but I suspect some of you are tired of hearing that," he joked, before thanking his parents for immigrating from the UK when he was young and "emphasizing the importance of being carefree.".
Myers also sent greetings to his brothers Peter and Paul, who were in the audience, and listed many of his friends and associates, including Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and the late Catherine O'Hara.
The comedy star also made sure to thank his hometown of Scarborough, Ontario.
«"I've learned three rules: when to fight, when to joke, and when to run," the 63-year-old added. "Canada, I don't even know what to say, man. Without you, I'd be literally nothing.".
At the awards ceremony, Hudson Williams won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for "Heavy Rivalry." His co-star, Connor Storry, was ineligible because he is American.
«"I'm so honored to be Canadian—it's fantastic! If I could split this award, I would, because if those languid, attention-seeking little eyes didn't have a big, sexy Russian to feast their eyes on, my performance wouldn't have been nearly as good. So, honorary Canadian Connor Storrie, I'll share this award with you," he smiled.
