He explained that his son really liked the name but abandoned it due to his deep admiration for the DC character. Cage noted that, interestingly, he wasn't a big Superman fan to begin with. As a child, he said, he was more interested in reading comics about "monsters" like Ghost Rider and the Incredible Hulk.
Explaining the reasons behind naming his son Kal-El, the Long Legs actor added, "It's related to Superman, but I loved that it was a name. It's a real name. It's actually a Hebrew name. It means 'voice of God.'" The 62-year-old actor also said he's always thought Kal-El was a "beautiful" name, which is why he gave it to his son. However, he clarified that the name wasn't chosen out of a "love" or "adoration" for Superman.
In the 1990s, Cage was unable to star in the film "Superman Lives," as the project never came to fruition, presumably due to script and budget issues. However, the idea was eventually revived in 2023, when he was cast in a cameo role as the superhero in "The Flash.".
During the conversation, he shared his impressions of his brief appearance in the film and admitted he was surprised by how the creators used the footage they had of him.
