ImGist - I Am the Essence

Love Island USA fired a contestant for racism for the second year in a row.

On the show "Love Island USA," one contestant was sent home after racist messages surfaced on social media two days after the casting announcement. Vasana Montgomery used a racial slur in two videos that are circulating online.

Last year, Yulisa Escobar was fired from the show for using the same offensive language, and Sierra Ortega was suspended after using a slur against Asian people.

In one video, Montgomery says, "Knock knock [n-word expletive]" while playing a shooter game in an arcade. In another, she recites the word to music. Multiple outlets have reported that the videos were apparently originally posted to private accounts and then made public after the cast was announced, making it unlikely Peacock saw them beforehand.

The new season of the reality show will premiere on June 2. Ariana Madix will host, with Ian Stirling providing the voiceover.

New episodes will be released daily during the premiere week, and then will be published every weekday evening (except Wednesday).

Last season, Escobar left the show at the beginning of the second episode. At the time, no official reason for her departure was given. Shortly after last year's cast was announced, podcast interviews surfaced in which Escobar described her exes using racist language.

«"I used [the N-word] unknowingly, not fully understanding the weight, history, and pain behind it," the Miami native wrote on Instagram two days later. "I didn't mean to offend or hurt anyone, but I now understand that intent doesn't justify consequences. And the consequences of that word are real. It's tied to intergenerational trauma, and I have no right to use it.".

With Escobar's departure, the remaining cast members are Ace Green, Taylor Williams, Nicholas Vansteinberghe, Jeremiah Brown, Chelly Bissente, Huda Mustafa, Belle-A Walker, and Olandria Karten.
