NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Actor Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of assault for punching people outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras in February.
Details of the sentencing are not yet available in online court documents. LaBeouf's lawyer and manager did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Video footage of the February 17 incident shows a shirtless LaBeouf pushing one man to the ground and punching another in the face, "possibly dislocating his nose," according to a New Orleans police report.
Jeffrey Damnit, a well-known local entertainer identified by police in the report as Jeffrey Klein, said he was one of those attacked by LaBeouf.
«"He hit me, punched me a few times, pushed me a few times," Damnit told The Associated Press earlier this year.
According to Dammit, LaBeouf "just went crazy," trying to start fights and threatening to beat up the artist and others. He added that earlier in the evening, LaBeouf had pushed him from behind at a bar, shouting homophobic slurs and threatening violence.
According to Damnit's testimony and the police report, Damnit and others subdued LaBoeuf and attempted to force him to leave the scene, but he refused to leave and became even more aggressive.
After LaBeouf was charged in February, a judge ordered him to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
LaBeouf has had several run-ins with the law during his career, including being arrested in New York in 2017 on suspicion of assault that occurred during a livestream.
That same year, while filming The Peanut Butter Falcon in Georgia, he was arrested for public intoxication, charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice, and sentenced to probation.
In 2020, he was charged with battery and petty theft in Los Angeles.
That same year, English singer and actress FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, also filed a lawsuit alleging that LaBeouf had physically and emotionally abused her during their relationship, which they settled in July.
The actor first gained recognition as a child actor for his role in the Disney Channel series "Even Stevens" and continued to work actively into adulthood. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the 2007 films "Transformers" and 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.".
