Soulja Boy says it's time to "pull the towel" as recent relapses have taken a toll on his emotional state.
In a video that circulated on social media this week, believed to be from a recent livestream, Soulja details how he quit using lean for about a year, after which he relapsed several times. During these periods, he explained, it became clear that his emotional state while using lean was not the numbness he had previously experienced.
«"I need to quit drinking," Souljah told fans, as seen below. "I don't even drink cough syrup anymore, man. I quit cough syrup for, like, a year. And then sometimes I relapse. A week or so goes by, and it's not even boredom. I'll be honest. I'm, like, overstimulated. When I feel overstimulated, I have to pour myself another drink.".
«"When he gets drunk," Souljah added, "he has an unwanted emotional reaction that he now expects.".

«Every time I pour myself a drink, I get overwhelmed with emotion, man,» he said. “Every single time. I used to pour myself a drink, and all my feelings would disappear. I’d become immune to that shit. No matter how overstimulated I was, no matter what I was going through, man, I’d pour myself a glass and just go about my day. Nobody could bother me, and I could do whatever I wanted. And now, man, I pour myself a drink, and I’m just overcome with this terrible sadness.”.
According to the 35-year-old "Crank That" singer, this is true no matter how happy he appears to be in his day-to-day life.
«"I start thinking about the most horrible things you can possibly imagine in life," he said. "I'm like, 'Fuck... This stuff is just taking me to a whole other world. It's over, you idiot. I need to pour out the glass, you idiot. That's it. I can't pour anymore, you idiot. I can't feel like this.'".
In a 2021 interview with Hot 97, Soulja revealed he had quit using lean, claiming the habit was "worsening" his mood. He said it had been about two or three years since he quit, though his recent statements suggest it wasn't a permanent decision.
