Sean Reiffel, participant of the reality show "« Island of Love »" , responded to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Mayor William J. Reynolds after the politician criticized 29-year-old Riphel for quitting his job as a police officer to star in a reality show on the Peacock platform. During an episode of Love Island: The Day After Tomorrow, cameras captured Riphel's reaction to Reynolds' statements. Discussing the situation with producers, Riphel admitted he was surprised by Reynolds's comments, as he claimed he had had a frank conversation with his employer about his plans.
Love Island alum Sean Reiffel has responded to William J. Reynolds after he criticised him for sacked him.
On the first episode of his talk show "Aftersun," part of Peacock's "Love Island USA" series, Reiffel broke his silence on Reynolds' blunt statement about his decision to leave his police career to star in the series.
«"I think he's upset. It's interesting," Reiffel said.
Reiffel later expressed bewilderment at the mayor's statements, claiming he had had an open and honest conversation about where he was going.
«"I made sure to talk to my employer and explain in detail where I was going and what was happening, and they asked me to take unpaid leave," Raiffel said.
Reifel was "bothered" by the mayor's public statements about him.
In another episode, Reiffel said he was irritated by the mayor's public comments about him, given that shortly before leaving office, the department reportedly praised him for his dedication and commitment to the city.
«"This really bothers me because, shortly before I left, I was given awards for pulling a woman out of a burning building with my colleagues and for coaxing a mentally ill man off a roof. So, to give me these awards and then do something like this? I just don't understand," Reiffel said.
Although Raiffel apparently had a lot to say about the situation, he chose to keep his words to a minimum.
«"I don't want to say anything bad about them. I understand that some things can be taken out of context. Everyone in the department knew what I was getting at," he said.
Williams criticized Raiffel for quitting his job as a police officer to star in the reality show Love Island.
For those unfamiliar with the mayor's comments, he stated that Reiffel left Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in dire straits when he quit his job as a police officer to find love on television.
«"Our police department invested a great deal of time in his training, and we paid thousands of taxpayer dollars for his police academy education. We are disappointed to see him leave, as we now have another vacancy in our department that cannot be filled until next year," Williams said. "I never thought I'd see the day in America when being on a reality show would be more important than being a police officer.".
The mayor wasn't the only public official to express negative opinions. Bethlehem Police Chief Michelle Cott shared a similar statement, saying that while she was a fan of Reiffel, she was "disappointed" in him.
«"Simply because we work incredibly hard to attract the best people to the Bethlehem Police Department," she said, according to The Morning Call.
