Faizon Love appeared in court on Friday to answer charges of failing to pay child support to Tiffany Lee, who is reportedly his ex-partner.
Lee sued the actor, alleging he owed $250,000 in child support. The debt reportedly accumulated over several years under a court-ordered payment schedule of $2,500 per month.
The legal battle eventually led to Love's lawyer, Glen Lansky, revealing that the actor had been struggling with poverty. According to Lansky, Love's financial situation had become so dire that he was homeless for a time until a friend took him in.
«"He was homeless. He lived in his car," Love's lawyer told the judge during the hearing. "That's how the mighty have fallen.".

In Love's defense, the actor's lawyer sharply criticized Lee and her legal team for the way they handled the case against his client.
The lawyer says he is being "made out to be a complete villain" for failing to make required payments, while allegedly ignoring the financial hardship and homelessness Love has experienced.
A legal expert also suggested that Love would be willing to fulfill his child support obligations if he could find work and improve his financial situation.
«"I think he wants to be an actor," Lansky said, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay. "He wants to write screenplays. He has connections in the business, and hopefully he can get more roles.".
Faizon Love claims that royalties are his main source of income.
During the hearing, Lee and her attorney argued that Love's failure to pay child support was willful.
Lee claimed he once promised her she "wouldn't get a penny" and was even willing to quit his acting career to avoid financial obligations.
However, Love attempted to dispute those claims, presenting financial documents that he said demonstrated his ongoing difficulties.
The actor says he relies heavily on annual royalties from Elf, which are reported to be around $10,000 a year.
He also stated that his highest annual gross income over the past five years was approximately $13,000 and claimed that he received no income in 2025.
The actor is trying to change the court's decision on child support payments.
After the hearing, Lav's lawyer issued a statement expressing satisfaction with the outcome.
He also noted that Love would file additional paperwork to modify the current child support agreement to better reflect his financial situation.
«"We are very pleased with the outcome, and I have taken on representation on all outstanding issues related to his case and will file an additional motion to modify the child support amount," Lav's lawyer said.
Meanwhile, the comedian has until July 1 to provide financial statements proving his inability to pay the child support owed to Lee.
Faizon Love was arrested earlier this month.
Earlier this month, Love was arrested in Riverside County, California, on charges of failing to comply with court orders related to a child support case.
He was held without bail for 16 days before being transferred to Florida, the jurisdiction that oversees child support cases.
Love was officially booked into jail in Tampa, where he spent three days before being released on bail on June 19.
It is currently unclear who helped the "Couples Retreat" star post bail, how much bail was set, and what conditions were attached to his release.
