Instead of jail time, the 44-year-old man accepted a lesser charge of "dangerous driving while intoxicated," which involves reckless driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
As part of the agreement, Spears received 12 months of probation instead of jail time. Now, the singer, known for her hit "Gimme More," is prohibited from possessing drugs without a valid prescription, must complete a drunk driving prevention course, and must pay state fines.
If she fails to comply with these conditions, she could still face imprisonment. Spears is also required to continue meeting with a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month.
The singer reportedly left the rehab center 21 days after the start of her scheduled 30-day rehabilitation program, even before the plea agreement was reached. Her lawyer, Michael Goldstein, later publicly commented on the outcome of the case.
