Upcoming reboot «The X-Files» Director Ryan Coogler's new film has sparked heated debate among the show's devoted fans. Original series creator Chris Carter now suggests the new version may not differ much from the previous one.

Speaking about the director's cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Carter addressed the question of whether David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson would return. "At least, I think Gillian will appear in Coogler's version. And I assume David will appear, too, so you'll see Mulder and Scully in there," Carter told Polygon.
Chris Carter's comments clarify an important question regarding Coogler's series starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. The X-Files series may evolve within the original timeline, rather than starting from scratch. The series creator refrained from predicting how the reboot might affect his own ambitions. "I don't know. When I see it, I'll know, and so will the Fox executives," he said. "They'll have an idea whether these projects will compete or complement each other.".
Nevertheless, Carter remains determined to continue the story himself. "I'd love to do either another reboot or another movie," he added. "My plans for the future are very ambitious. Whether it's a TV series or a movie, I don't know, but I have big plans.".

On that day, Chris Carter's reworked version of the 2008 film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Dr. Frankenstein, will premiere on Hulu and Disney Plus. This version differs from the previous theatrical release. Carter removed references to Mulder's sister Samantha and Scully's son William. He also cut two romantic scenes between the main characters. Now, the new version restores his original vision for a standalone horror story.
Overall, despite Ryan Coogler's involvement, Carter wants to leave room for both visions. "I don't want to interfere with him and his vision in any way, so I hope he can do what he does and I can do what I want," he told Men's Journal. "I want to believe.".
