Didn't Meryl Streep watch the first season of Roseanne?
The three-time Oscar winner, considered one of the best actresses of her generation, admitted to People in a story published Friday that she recently saw "Lady Bird" star Laurie Metcalf perform and was so impressed that Streep considered "just retiring" from acting.

«"Basically, I don't know how to act... When I see other people doing it, I think, 'How did she do that?'" Streep told the magazine, before expressing admiration for Metcalf.
«"I just watched Death of a Salesman last night. I can't believe how Laurie Metcalf absolutely blew me away... every single one of me! And I thought, 'I wish I could retire because I have no idea how the hell she did that.' What a talented artist she is!"«
Asked if she saw Metcalf after the show, Streep joked that she "kissed her feet.".

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star went on to explain that her personal approach to acting is more instinctive.
«"Yeah, I don't know how to do it," Streep said of acting. "I go into everything without knowing how anyone else does it. And you kind of feel it, listen to it, and pick it up as you go. But I don't have a method—when you say, 'Oh, you used a method,' I don't even know what a method is. I've never studied it.".

She continued, "But you have a feeling that you know what you need to do.".
In 2017, Metcalf told Slant magazine that she rehearses all her lines before every performance. When Slant commented that this sounded like a rather tedious task, Metcalf replied, "It is! I hate doing it, but I feel good when I'm done. It's like a workout.".
