In its debut season, the Marvel Animation series on Disney+ introduced Otto Octavius as a disgruntled former Oscorp scientist who supplied supervillains with suits and weapons, but mostly kept him away from the streets and the security forces. The season one finale ended with Octavius locked in his cell, sketching out the mechanical arms familiar to comic book fans. Now, that hint is being fulfilled with the official reveal of his new suit.
New promotional art for the second season of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" features Doctor Octopus in his full villainous costume for the first time, complete with the four mechanical tentacles he's best known for in the comics. The image was featured on official merchandise, which depicts Otto Octavius in a skintight suit with a metal belt, metal arms extending behind it, and webbing in the background. This design was used on a gray T-shirt, as well as merchandise featuring Ghost Spider from the same series. This is a more accurate version of Doctor Octopus compared to the lab-coat-clad scientist seen in the first season.

How the new Doctor Octopus differs from previous Spider-Man films
Doctor Octopus has appeared in various forms in various Spider-Man media, and the new design in the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man closely follows Steve Ditko's original comic book illustration.
The 1994 animated Spider-Man series also retained the classic green and yellow color scheme; however, it featured a much bulkier and more imposing armored suit.
Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 took the opposite direction. Alfred Molina's Otto wore a long brown leather coat without any costume underneath—a realistic approach that prioritized realism over comic book fidelity. Doctor Octopus returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home with a slightly different coat and more technologically advanced mechanical arms.
Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man video game took another route, giving Otto a stylish green and black tactical suit with armored tentacles, a far cry from the comics' vibrant color scheme.
Compared to those seen in the films, Spider-Man's design in the second season of "Your Friendly Neighborhood" feels like a deliberate throwback. The seatbelts and visible mechanical arms make it seem as if Marvel Animation has chosen to fully honor the comics rather than pursue a realistic approach.
Doctor Octopus is going to get a lot more dangerous in the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
In the first season, Doctor Octopus's tentacles are not attached to his body; he controls them entirely remotely. In one scene, when law enforcement officers attempt to arrest him, he neutralizes them all with a snap of his finger using his mechanical arms.
In season two, Otto will be equipped with mechanical arms, making him far more dangerous than in season one. The four extra limbs attached to his body mean Doctor Octopus will have incredible range, as the mechanical arms can extend enormous distances. This will be a major headache for Peter Parker when they finally come face to face.
Otto's intelligence makes upgrades even more challenging for Spider-Man. In the first season, it was already shown that his technology surpasses anything his clients could create on their own, and villains like Unicorn and Speed Demon received their upgrades in his workshop.
That same engineering mind, now equipped with the ability to climb walls, cling, and improvise on the fly, spells trouble for Spider-Man, who already faces a long list of enemies in the upcoming season.
