With the release of VisionQuest this fall, Marvel Studios is returning to its old strategy. Since Disney+ became the second home for MCU content, Marvel Studios has released dozens of original superhero series, both live-action and animated. Some of these Marvel series available on streaming platforms released multiple episodes at a time, while others were released weekly, with the weekly releases having little consistency in release dates.
When VisionQuest arrives on Disney+ on October 14, 2026, The studio will return to the series-based strategy that Marvel Studios has not used since 2023. Since October 14th falls on a Wednesday, VisionQuest marks the return of weekly Marvel releases on Disney+ on Wednesdays. This reverses the previous strategy, which saw Daredevil: Rebirth seasons 1 and 2 (set for 2025 and 2026) released on Tuesdays.
Marvel Studios' other recent live-action series, Ironheart and Wonder Man, also aired on Tuesdays, suggesting Tuesday has become the go-to release date for MCU content. But with VisionQuest's return to Wednesday releases, the company is returning to its long-standing strategy.
When Marvel Television launched its Disney+ streaming strategy with WandaVision in 2021, New episodes began airing on Fridays. The next Marvel show on streaming platforms, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, followed suit before Marvel Studios switched to Wednesday mornings. All MCU shows on Disney+, including Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and others, followed the Wednesday morning release strategy until Secret Invasion in 2023.
The Loki series' release strategy shifted again, with the second season releasing weekly on Thursdays, and several other Marvel Cinematic Universe series being released at different times. Echo premiered on Tuesday, making it a binge-watch. The third season of What If...? premiered on Sunday. Then, with the release of Daredevil: Rebirth in 2025, some structure emerged, beginning the trend of Tuesday-night series releases. This trend continued in 2026 with the release of Daredevil: Rebirth season two., But for its next series, Marvel is bringing back Wednesdays.
Notably, VisionQuest isn't the only Marvel Studios release to air on Wednesdays in 2026: X-Men '97's second season is also following that trend, with its first episode set to premiere on Wednesday, July 1.
VisionQuest is the third installment in the Disney+ trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha Agatha Agatha. In the Marvel series, Vision, played by Paul Bettany, embarks on a journey to rediscover himself. Also starring are James Spader, Todd Stashwick, and T'Nia Miller.
While Marvel has stated its willingness to support VisionQuest's TV series plans, Wednesday releases may result in the series being overlap with several other major projects of the fall television season.
The shift in release dates for VisionQuest releases could create unwanted competition for Marvel.
Marvel Studios hasn't announced release dates for any new TV shows yet, beyond VisionQuest and X-Men '97 Season 2, so it's unclear if this Wednesday-night trend will continue in the future or if it will shift back to an earlier date for any Marvel TV projects coming out in 2027.
The Tuesday-Wednesday schedule change isn't all that big of a deal for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially given how sporadic Marvel's previous Disney+ releases have been. Returning to Wednesdays will allow VisionQuest combine with the second trilogy series «WandaVision» , «"Agatha is always there.". This series also aired on Wednesdays and showed decent viewership growth week over week. Marvel may want to replicate this success with VisionQuest, as well as build momentum around its WandaVision trilogy.
Fall is also a busy season for television, so getting VisionQuest on the schedule early is in Marvel's best interest. Currently, the only other major TV show competing with VisionQuest on Wednesdays is Prime Video's Terminal List, an action-packed thriller starring MCU star Chris Pratt, which will air a week after VisionQuest's first episode and potentially target the same audience.
A few weeks later, on Wednesday, November 11, Prime Video will also release its major fantasy blockbuster, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, Season 3. This marks the first time that The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power has been released on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays, so this could amount to serious competition VisionQuest in the middle of the season , when the MCU and Lord of the Rings franchises collide head-to-head (one year before their epic showdown in 2027).
However, by this point, VisionQuest has already released at least five episodes and may have built an audience, putting it in a strong position to retain viewers' attention in the face of competition from other Prime Video platforms.
