«"My jaw dropped," she recalled. "Literally. I thought, 'This is rude.' But they were like, 'This is not a joke. You have to make a choice. You can either go to hospice or get these lungs.'".
This conversation forced Long to face the truth. Suddenly, the future she had imagined for herself depended on a decision that had to be made immediately.

Describing her current state, Long said she feels "wonderful.".
She also shared encouraging details about her recovery, saying, "Tomorrow is my last appointment for all of these issues.".
The good news continued, and she added, "No symptoms. Asymptomatic. No infections. Nothing like that. Then I'll have a vocal cord checkup in six months, in August, because I also had vocal cord surgery.".
The successful transplant allowed her to focus on rebuilding both her health and her career.
