Why Ethan Abandons His Daughter on General Hospital: Explained.

In the series «Main Hospital» Ethan is trying his best to hide his daughter Phoebe's paternity. Now, actor Nathan Dean, who plays Ethan, explains the reason behind this decision in a recent interview.

Nathan Dean explains why Ethan gives up his daughter on General Hospital.

Ethan wants Brooke and Chase to care for his daughter at General Hospital. "It's the best-case scenario, given the circumstances," Nathan Dean told Soap Opera Digest. The 37-year-old actor continued, "Of course, it's not ideal. I don't think Ethan would want that to happen." Dean added that Ethan "didn't want Delilah to die." However, with Delilah gone, Ethan wants to ensure the child's safety.

The actor further explained, "He doesn't have a really strong relationship with Brook Lynn or Chase, but Ethan trusts Tracy [Jane Elliott] with his life." Dean shared, "Tracy wants this adoption to happen, and if she agrees, it will help Ethan tremendously because suddenly he has access to all sorts of resources that he wouldn't have if he were trying to protect the child alone." Ethan is "really excited about Tracy's involvement." Dean noted, "He knows she'll be there, under the same roof, taking care of the baby.".

Speaking about the closed adoption, the actor stated, "Ethan has always kept everything a secret." Dean added, "But beyond that, he knows Tracy and Lulu will question his decision." Furthermore, Ethan fears the women might mention his late father, Luke. "They might say, 'Luke didn't turn you down, why are you doing this [with your child]?' And Ethan just doesn't need that wave of guilt," Dean explained. He concluded, "I'll finalize this adoption, then it'll be out of my hands, and I'll know I did the right thing for this child by giving it up.".
