ACTING | Euphoria ended with a shocking twist: in Sunday's finale, Zendaya's character, Rue, died after unknowingly taking a pill laced with fentanyl. However, the story didn't end there. Rue's death had a profound emotional impact on her friend and mentor, Ali, and Colman Domingo delivered a brilliant performance as Ali, who fought to avenge Rue's death before finally finding some peace.
Ali managed to share a quiet moment with Rue before her death, and Domingo and Zendaya showed us how easy it was for them to communicate. But in the morning, Ali discovered Rue's lifeless body, and Domingo's face twisted in a heartbreaking grimace as Ali had to say goodbye to yet another friend. Tests confirmed fentanyl as the cause, and Ali poured out his feelings at a recovery meeting, raging about how fentanyl was killing American youth, Domingo's voice shaking with righteous anger. But his eyes were weary, as if he'd seen it all too often: "I just know I'm tired. Tired of losing people.".
Determined to get justice for Rue, Ali went after her boss, drug lord Alamo, storming into his strip club in full military fatigues and wielding a sawed-off shotgun like a Wild West gunslinger. Domingo was mesmerizing as Ali calmly threatened Alamo's henchmen before engaging in a full-scale gunfight, confronting Alamo in an incredibly tense standoff. Thankfully, he emerged victorious, and Ali traveled to the Texas border to visit the Christian family with whom Rue was staying. Domingo let relief and gratitude wash over his face as Ali said a prayer at the dinner table, holding back tears as he saw an angelic vision of Rue sitting across from him. It was a much-needed moment of grace after all the death and violence we've witnessed this season, and Domingo ensured that even though Rue is no longer with us, her spirit lives on.

As hedge fund manager-turned-thief Coop on the Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbors, Jon Hamm sometimes seems to operate on autopilot, drifting along with the alpha male aura he cultivated on Mad Men. But beneath that alpha male surface lie powerful emotions, and Hamm unleashed them in this week's season two finale, adding depth and vulnerability to his stoic portrayal. As Coop struggled to stop Nick from calling the police after Ash's death, a note of panic crept into Hamm's voice as he contemplated yet another murder charge. The experience left Coop shaken, and he confided in his sister, Ali, admitting that "every time I think I've found myself, I turn around and realize I'm more lost than ever." Coop seemed to regret some of his life choices, and Hamm masterfully conveyed this when Coop urged his friend to end his affair and give his family another chance. (And he speaks from experience.) Coop managed to reconnect with his broken family at a bowling alley, and Hamm brought a tender warmth to his scenes with Mel, played by Amanda Peet, longing for the simple life he left behind. Coop's life may never be simple again—Ash's body, for example, is about to be found—but Hamm's brilliant performance made all the complexities enjoyable to watch.
